Hopefully you have seen his beautiful paintings, if not check out his website.

Jon McNaughton went to BYU on a full tuition art scholarship. He graduated with a BFA with an emphasis in illustration. He is an established artist from Utah whose new painting has attracted the international attention of millions over the last two years. Highly detailed religious and patriotic subjects are the focus of these paintings. His experiences and faith are the inspiration for his work. He painting are described as French Barbizon Impressionism which was popular from 1830-1875. Many artists including, Degas, Pissaro, Picaso collected these works of art. Monet was quoted as saying of one particular painting, "There is only one master here - Corot. Compared to him, the rest of us are nothing, absolutely nothing."

French Barbizon is recognized by the softness of the landscape, subtle tones of colors, and the scenes of simple country life. Before 1912, French Barbizon Impressionism was one of the most collected works of art in the world. After WWI the public wanted to be more progressive and began to disregard anything "old fashioned". This particular painting style became forgotten - until today. Through a lifetime of research and careful study Jon has become recognized as the premier French Barbizon Impressionist.

Jon said, “There are three kinds of people who view my paintings; those who like it, those who hate it, and those who simply don’t understand. I am especially interested in this last category. I hope my work will create conversation and reach people on a deeper level. I like to use metaphor and multiple levels of meaning to reach my viewer. If it makes them think and feel then it is successful.”

Fireside: Kalai

Sunday, January 9, 2011
7:00 p.m.
2120 W Gentile, Layton

Kalai is urban vintage. The Hawaiian Born, Alaska raised, is an old school young buck with do anything, anytime, at any level, musical talent. Besides being a lyrical BIGfoot, instrumentally this guy puts the “Z” in skillz. His music ranges coast to coast with soft ballads, edgy blues, straight jazz, acid jazz, and yeah buddy, a little bit of his own thing. If Dave Mathews, Paul Simon, Ben Harper, James Taylor, John Mayer, B...ill Murray (Yes, the comedian.) and Béla Fleck had a baby it would surely be this guy! One might say you have to hear him to believe it, but chances are, even once you do, you won’t.
